Statement on Russia's invasion of Ukraine 
 

On February 24, the Russian government initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine despite
humanity's plea for peace.

In present-day society, the use of violence should not be justified for any reason. War
causes the tragic loss of many lives and leaves many victims behind. It destroys the
infrastructure of the economy, health, education, and science & technology built over
centuries by humankind. War is a crucial threat to global security and raises the risk of
catastrophic human annihilation.

As scientists, we are aware that cross-border cooperation is essential if we are to promote human prosperity and happiness through scientific and technological innovation. KAIST accommodates both Ukrainian and Russian members as part of our community. On the basis of respect and an understanding of diversity, global collaboration research thrives at KAIST.

We cannot overlook the tragedy taking place in Ukraine, for war undermines the foundation of trust essential for mutual alliance and solidarity and instead creates hatred
and distrust.

The KAIST Graduate Students Association, Center for Human Rights, the KAIST Committee on Social Inclusion, and 1100 representatives of KAIST strongly condemn the Russian government's aggression and urge them to immediately stop acts of violence that will ultimately prove to be self-destructive. We will strive to prevent bloodshed and avoid humanitarian crises and work in solidarity with Ukrainians, Russians, and all members of the international community standing on the side of peace.
